Where it sits
Valley Trails is located on Pleasanton's west side, just off Hopyard Road and only minutes from both I-680 and I-580. The neighborhood is laid out mostly as a single loop — Valley Trails Drive — with numerous courts spinning off on each side, and Valley Trails Park running right down the middle. You're close to the Alameda County Fairgrounds, an easy drive to shopping, and only about two miles from Pleasanton's historic downtown.
How it came to be
Valley Trails was built by Morrison Homes between 1968 and 1971, giving it that established character and the mature, tree-lined streetscape you can't fake in a newer subdivision. More recently, a small infill project added a cluster of newer single-family homes within the neighborhood, so you'll find a bit of variety alongside the original homes.
The homes
The original Valley Trails homes are classic single-family residences — many in a ranch-style vein — generally ranging from around 1,300 to 1,900 square feet, on lots that typically run 6,000 to 8,000 square feet, with some larger lots tucked into the cul-de-sacs. Over the years, many owners have remodeled and expanded, and the newer infill homes add some larger floorplans to the mix, so the range of sizes and finishes here is wider than the original plans alone. It's a neighborhood with real options, and the court lots especially tend to draw a lot of interest.
The park at its heart
The signature feature of Valley Trails is its namesake park. Valley Trails Park is a 6.1-acre green space that winds down the center of the neighborhood — long and narrow, with a walking path that's great for getting in some steps, plus barbecue pits, picnic tables, a tot play area, and basketball courts. Just beyond the neighborhood you've also got the adjacent Val Vista area's large community park (with a skate park and sports facilities) and the Pleasanton Tennis and Community Park, so green space and recreation are genuinely abundant here.
Schools
Valley Trails is served by the highly regarded Pleasanton Unified School District. Homes here have typically been assigned to Donlon Elementary, Thomas Hart Middle School, and Foothill High School. Getting around
Convenience is one of Valley Trails' biggest draws. You're just off Hopyard Road with quick access to I-680 and I-580, close to the Pleasanton Gateway Shopping Center (Safeway, CVS, and a range of restaurants), and within reach of an ACE train station and a BART station a few miles north for car-free commuting to San Jose, Oakland, and San Francisco. Downtown Pleasanton's shops, restaurants, and weekly farmers' market are about two miles south.
